Included in Living Collection – Contemporary Mood 2023, this Florentine residence by BUNKER Studio exemplifies an approach to interior architecture based on permanence rather than trends. Set within a historic apartment, the project reinterprets the building’s original character through a measured dialogue between classical architecture, custom-made interventions and carefully curated design pieces. 

The renovation preserves the proportions and elegance of the existing structure while introducing a new spatial clarity. Bespoke architectural elements—including oak herringbone flooring, decorative wall panelling, fluted walnut cabinetry and handcrafted details—create a calm architectural framework that allows furniture, lighting and artworks to coexist naturally.

Rather than treating decoration as an addition, the interiors are conceived as a continuous composition. Collectible twentieth-century furniture, contemporary artworks and custom-designed pieces establish a layered visual narrative where each object contributes to the identity of the space. The result is an environment that feels collected over time, balancing historical references with contemporary sensibility.

Materiality is central to the project. Natural oak, marble, plaster, velvet, brass and handcrafted ceramic surfaces introduce depth through texture rather than ornament. Neutral living spaces maximise daylight and architectural rhythm, while more intimate rooms explore richer chromatic palettes—deep blues, warm terracotta and saturated greens—creating subtle changes of atmosphere throughout the home.

Particular attention is given to bespoke details. The custom kitchen, defined by fluted walnut fronts and marble worktops, integrates seamlessly within the historical envelope. The bathrooms employ richly glazed ceramic surfaces to create immersive, almost sculptural spaces, while the bedrooms combine tailored joinery, curated artworks and soft materials to reinforce a sense of intimacy and permanence.

As presented in Living Collection, the project reflects BUNKER Studio’s broader philosophy: interiors should not simply display design, but construct an atmosphere. Architecture, craftsmanship, art and collectible furniture are brought together with restraint, creating spaces that remain culturally relevant and emotionally resonant beyond changing aesthetic trends.
