AD-ITALIA BUNKER STUDIO FIRENZE

0014 AD Italia – rinascimento a colori, March 2026 (IT)

Published in Architectural Digest Italia, this feature explores a residential project by BUNKER Studio set within the piano nobile of a Renaissance palace in Florence. Designed for an international art-collecting family, the apartment brings together historic architecture, contemporary artworks and custom-made furnishings in a carefully orchestrated dialogue between past and present.

The restoration preserves the building’s original identity, from frescoed ceilings and decorative plasterwork to historic woodwork and architectural details. Rather than competing with these elements, the design introduces a contemporary language that highlights their character through restrained interventions, refined materials and a thoughtful use of colour.

Throughout the interiors, bespoke furniture designed by BUNKER Studio coexists with collectible design, vintage icons and works by contemporary artists. Every room is conceived as a curated composition, where architecture, furniture and art contribute equally to the identity of the space, creating an environment that feels both lived-in and gallery-like.

A carefully balanced palette combines natural timber, brushed metal, stone and vibrant accents, allowing each room to develop its own atmosphere while maintaining visual continuity across the apartment. Historic craftsmanship and contemporary forms are intentionally juxtaposed, generating interiors that are sophisticated, expressive and deeply personal.

Beyond aesthetics, the project focuses on everyday living. The original layout has been reinterpreted to create generous, fluid spaces that support modern family life while preserving the grandeur and proportions of the historic residence. Custom joinery, integrated storage and tailored architectural solutions enhance both functionality and spatial clarity.

The project also reflects BUNKER Studio’s multidisciplinary philosophy, where architecture becomes a framework for collecting, displaying and experiencing art. Paintings, sculptures and design objects are not treated as decoration, but as integral architectural elements that shape the identity of each space.

Rather than recreating a historical interior or pursuing a purely contemporary aesthetic, the residence embraces the dialogue between different eras. Original Renaissance features, twentieth-century design classics and newly commissioned pieces coexist naturally, producing interiors that are timeless rather than nostalgic.
