IDEAT BUNKER STUDIO FIRENZE

0008 IDEAT – Un affaire de famille, December 2023 (FR)

Published in IDEAT France, this project documents the complete transformation of a nineteenth-century apartment in Florence into a timeless family home. Rather than imposing a stylistic formula, BUNKER Studio approached the renovation as a careful balance between preservation and reinvention, creating interiors where architecture, design and art coexist with quiet coherence.

The apartment was extensively reconfigured to better reflect contemporary living. The kitchen was relocated to create a more generous sequence of interconnected spaces, while custom architectural interventions—including oak herringbone flooring, classical wall panelling, fluted walnut cabinetry and bespoke joinery—establish a calm and enduring framework. Every detail contributes to an atmosphere that feels both historically grounded and unmistakably contemporary.

Throughout the interiors, original twentieth-century furniture is placed in dialogue with commissioned pieces and contemporary artworks, creating an environment that resists stylistic categorisation. Objects from different decades coexist naturally, not as a collection of references but as part of a continuous conversation between past and present. This layered composition reflects BUNKER Studio’s approach to residential design: creating spaces that evolve over time rather than follow a single aesthetic narrative.

Colour plays a defining role in the narrative of the home. While the living areas remain light and restrained, intimate spaces adopt richer and more saturated tones, creating subtle shifts in mood without disrupting the overall harmony. Materiality is equally considered, with natural oak, marble, plaster, velvet and hand-finished surfaces introducing texture and warmth throughout the apartment.

As highlighted by IDEAT, the project reflects BUNKER Studio’s philosophy that architecture is shaped as much by emotion as by function. The home becomes more than a collection of beautiful objects; it is conceived as a living environment where bespoke design, historical references and contemporary art contribute to a lasting sense of identity, allowing the interiors to evolve naturally over time while remaining deeply connected to their architectural context.
