0006 IDEAT – Bleu campagne, April 2021 (FR)

Featured in IDEAT Contemporary Life, this project documents one of BUNKER Studio’s earliest residential works: the transformation of a historic country house in the Valdarno into a contemporary home shaped by architecture, collecting and everyday life. Developed in close collaboration with Samuele Failli, the project approaches the house as a sequence of interconnected spaces, where each room contributes to a broader architectural narrative rather than functioning as an isolated interior.   

The intervention focused on restoring clarity to the existing structure while enhancing its relationship with light, proportion and landscape. Original architectural elements were preserved wherever possible and complemented by carefully considered additions, allowing the house to retain its historic character while accommodating a contemporary way of living. Oak herringbone floors, tactile materials and a restrained palette provide a calm backdrop for the collection they host.

Throughout the residence, twentieth-century Italian design coexists with contemporary artworks by Duccio Maria Gambi, Lorenzo Bonechi, Nicolas Denino, Nicola Martini and other artists, creating a layered dialogue between different periods and disciplines. Rather than composing a series of decorative interiors, the project explores how architecture can become a framework for art, design and daily life to coexist naturally. 

Through Helenio Barbetta’s photography and Mara Bottini’s text, IDEAT captures not only the visual identity of the house but also the design philosophy behind it: an architecture grounded in context, shaped by light and material, and conceived as a lasting relationship between space, people and the surrounding Tuscan landscape.
